Why We are Tail Waggins Dog Bakery

A lost dog turns into a found friend..
Tail Waggins Dog Bakery was founded by partners Diane Hamar and Debbie Beck in a very round about way. And it all started when Diane's beautiful one year old Sheltie, Lexi was lost.
Lexi was left out in the back yard by Diane's nanny, on the day workmen were due to re-roof the house. The crew arrived and began work. Shingles were flying off the roof, and air-powered nail guns created a racket which sent Lexi into spasms of fear. When one of the crew opened the gate and walked away, Lexi bolted.
Lexi was gone for 15 days. Diane and her husband Pete launched a massive hunt for their beloved pet. Hundreds of flyers were distributed, neighborhoods canvassed door-to-door, ads placed in the paper, and a reward posted. During the search, Diane got a call from someone who spotted the ad in the paper. That someone was Debbie, who called to offer the services of her very talented hound, DoLittle. Debbie brought DoLittle out, and Doo tracked Lexi to a group of apartments where the search intensified.
As it turns out, an unscrupulous apartment manager had been holding Lexi, and was going to give her to her mother for a present. When she tried to get Lexi into her car, Lexi took off (Lexi gets very car-sick). Later that day, Diane found Lexi in the woods behind the apartment complex.
Friendship leads to rescue.. and detective work?
Diane and Debbie who are both nurses developed an immediate kinship, and became good friends during the search for Lexi and the period that followed. Casual conversations led to them starting up two ventures, "Friends Fur Life Rescue", and "Lookin for Lexi Pet Recovery Service". In order to raise money for their rescue efforts, Diane started baking home-made dog treats and selling them at local establishments.
After bringing home several lost doggies (DoLittle is very talented indeed), rescuing many others, and helping shut down a dog theft ring (a story in itself), Diane and Debbie admitted to themselves that the most popular (and fun) part of their efforts was the cookie baking and sales. Tail Waggins was born.... well, conceived.

A New Addition
Shortly after Diane and Debbie started putting Tail Waggins together as a business seriously, Diane and Pete got their second taste-tester. Kira is Lexi's sister, two litters removed. Despite the common lineage, Kira turned out to be much smaller than Lex, but she is just as enthusiastic about growing up in a bakery.
Renewed Purpose
Not too long after Tail Waggins' first public appearance at a micro-chipping clinic in Georgetown, Diane was hospitalized and ended up fighting for her life as the result of a routine outpatient procedure. Diane was in the hospital for almost a month, and during that time she had people all over the country praying for her. But none like her family and friends here in the Austin area.
When Diane was finally able to return home, she was unable to return to work. With extra time and a new outlook on life, the ladies really attacked the bakery with a new sense of purpose. Their new determination drove the bakery to where it is today. Their plans eventually include a brick-and-mortar store-front here in the Austin area, that will come about once they decide on the range of services that will co-exist with the bakery.
And Now...
Lately, Deb has become a certified trainer, and the two are engaging in seminars together. Deb covers obedience and basic training, and Diane focuses on canine nutritional issues. The bakery is, and always will be a primary focus, as the dynamic duo continue to refine and design new recipes for the tasty delectables now available to your precious pets.
More to come.....
