The Winter Photo Contest Winners

The Winter photo contest had 60 dogs, and ran five rounds. The final round drew nearly 5,000 votes! Congratulations to all the dogs and their companions, and thanks for the incredible support that they all received from their friends, rescue groups and loving families.
1st Place - "Baby Mia"

I had a good friend who had gotten a really cute dog, named Fluffy. Fluffy was a tiny maltese, and I simply fell in love with her. Coming from a family that always had German Shepherds (we even had one from the police academy) I knew i wanted a special dog. But I just couldn't see a big dog in my tiny place. That's when I realized I was going to get a maltese, and that she would be from the same breeder as Fluffy. My first maltese, Tiffany mysteriously passed away at 6 months. I knew though that I still wanted a maltese, and thats when I got my second dog, Taffany. Taffany is now a CGC and Therapy dog. But, she needed a little sister.

Thats when my Baby Mia came into my life. I could not help but to fall for her cute little nose and her cute shyness (well her shyness is getting a lot better now) at 1.5 lbs you couldn't help but to fall for her. Baby Mia won my heart. I had her in puppy kindergarden, from which she graduated. Mia is now in basic training in her 4th week (goes on for 6 weeks). Mia will start her beyond training and lead into her therapy training and her CGC tests. Her test will be with Therapy Dog Inc. Her trainer had said she is right on track. We are now even trying to teach her doggy freestyle dancing (cutest thing you ever saw). I visit nursing homes with her older sister now. And soon Mia will be coming with us. I hope to do more in the future to help the seniors , and the sick.

Baby Mia just reached her 8th month. When she reaches 1 year old, we will have the test for her CGC and Therapy Dogs Certification. She is the apple of my eye, and I can't see not having her. She is my gem and I can't wait to share her with many... to put a smile on their faces. I also want to thank you so much for letting me share the story about my angel baby Mia. Thank you all. This group has been amazing.

2nd Place - "Doc"

When Doc is not curled up in his favorite place taking a nap or patrolling the yard for those intruders better known as birds, he is a good will ambassador for American Brittany Rescue. He lends his home to fellow britts who need a place to put their paws and rest until they can find a forever home of their very own. Doc and his sisters tell them “Need a Place to Stay, Come to Doc’s House and Play”.

Doc is 5 years old and don't let his larger size fool you. This big guy is as sweet as they come. He was adopted from American Brittany Rescue in 2003. From the moment we adopted him he has become a special part of our lives. He enjoys spending time with his sisters CJ and Dazy Dew who are also rescues. Doc is a Momma’s Boy but don't tell him that, he would never admit to it. But he does enjoy cuddling with me and getting belly rubs too.

Brittanys are awesome dogs who love their owners, other people, children and adapt very well to various situations. My family has owned 4 britts over the past 33 years.

Doc would like to thank everyone for their votes. Before you buy your next furry friend, think rescue first!!!!

Please visit Americanbrittanyrescue.org to learn more about Brittany’s. Foster homes are always needed. Please think about volunteering.

3rd Place - "Morgan"

I have been a volunteer for GRRRR of the Midwest for many years, and 3 years ago, pulled a beautiful young male Golden from our local shelter. And so...Morgan came into our lives!

Although I had fostered over 100 unwanted dogs, I had never kept one. My husband looked at me one day, and said...why don't we just keep Morgan? Took me about 3 seconds to get on the phone with the President of our group, asking if we could!

GR Midwest Morgan, CD, CGC, TDI is your so very typical young Golden! "Who needs a lightbulb", says Morgan...the sun is shining, the world is wonderful! He loves to swim, loves to run...and yes, STILL loves to jump fences! He has been known to make up his own agility courses, and gets GReat delight in making you laugh!

We applied for and received Morgan's AKC ILP registration, and he has so far completed his CD title; is currently in agility training, and starts classes for his CDX in two weeks.

Morgan completed his CGC and TDI this past fall, and will soon seriously start on his Therapy dog career . I was very worried his first time in a nursing home...I was afraid he would decide wheelchairs were to race with! But he bounded in the door, and settled right away, and enjoyed all of his friends in a quiet way.

Morgan was someone else's trash...and we are such winners to have him in our lives!
